Does anyone out there have children and want to get them involved in cycling? I'm a 43-year old single parent with an 11 year old son. We both love cycling but tend to end up doing it on our own, which is a bit boring for him, particularly but also could be a lot more fun with company! I've just joined this site and would really like to hook up with any other women who have children & who may be into doing the occasional child-friendly ride with us. We're based in West Yorkshire but are pretty mobile and can get out to anywhere within reasonable distance. Please send a message back if you're interested or know of any existing groups we could join in with! Cheers, Ursula (Leeds)

Hi Ursula,
Here at Oneplanet Adventure, we have teamed up with NWMBA (North Wales Mountain Bike association) to put on kids rides. They are called "go rides" for children aged 9-13 and a group of them go out from 9 for an hour around one of our trails. It is a great success for the kids to go out with others and meet some friends with the same hobbies. Our contact is Jon Harland from Welsh Cycling, www.welshcycling.co.uk
Maybe there is something similar nearer you?
Hope this helps,
Katy, Oneplanet Adventure

Hi Ursula, My self and Daughter going riding. We're in Leeds she's the same age as your son, i Am the same age as yourself. We also have wonted to meet up with other persons with young riders. We go to the Dales also the Peaks and plan to do more North Yorkshire this Summer. I'm sure if as yourself my daughter had someone her own age then i'd be able to get her out more.Though we did get out every Sunday last yr. would be good to hear from you..

Hi Elaine, that sounds great, thanks for replying. Where and how far do you go? Let me know when you are planning another ride and perhaps we could join you? I guess realistically it would have to be weekends or school holidays and we are busy sometimes but it would be nice to connect up. Let me know how best to get in touch with you, Cheers, Ursula

Hi Ursula, Sundays are the best as i work every other Saturday. During the school Holidays it would be Monday some times Friday. Depends on if i take their holidays as mine. As to how far well depends on where we go but anything from 12-20 miles, with longer ride a lunch stop, take a look, photo stops. For the first ride we can go local to see how everyone gets on. You e-mail by this site go to my profile or call :07830149133

Hi Ursula, I know this is a bit further for you to travel, but I think Endless Ride (who like us are in Morzine) may be planning a father and son/mother and daughter week this summer. If you want to treat him to a holiday that could be a good way to meet others to cycle with in the UK. Their site is http://www.endlessride.com. Cheers, Sara

Hi Elaine, Unfortunately we were away for Easter hols but back now. Would be interested in cycling now that evenings are lighter. When are you next going? Ursula

I know the guy who coaches Wakefield Tri CLub, and he is really keen on developing the kids section (in his real job, he works for British Triathlon, essentially encouraging sport in schools and talent spotting) , but isn't really too competitive - more fun. Have been on a ride with them, including kids,m and it was good fun. Have a look at Wakefield Tri Club. They are based at Pugney's Country Park and Thornes Park, both in Wakefield, just off M1 J39.
