I have a little dilemma.....I have a voodoo bokor with a jet 143 saddle and a hollowtech II bb. The saddle on this bike does give me small saddle sores eventually, but not bad enough to stop me riding, so I bought the same saddle for .......... My Spesh Rockhopper (has virtually the same geometry) with a 143 Jet saddle and a different narrower bb (about 2cm narrower - I'm not that up to speed with how it works, but it apparently has it's bearings inside), and even on the turbo for 35mins, I get to the point where I can't sit any longer and I get big lumpy saddle sores. I went to get remeasured for my saddle, and found that I should have the narrower saddle (130). I've not bought the new saddle yet as I thought I do some measuring of both bikes to get the saddle in the same position on both bikes. The only thing now that is different is the bb width. Has anyone else noticed this difference, or had a similar problem with saddles or the measuring of your sit bones....or is there a good narrow saddle which still has the cut out that anyone could recommend.

Gosh that's interesting. On both my bikes I was measured on the 'arseometer' and everything seems to be o.k. with the saddles. Just found out that the b.bs on both my bikes are the same. So I can't help you. I hope you get it sorted Julie, these things are never pleasant. As you know I haven't ridden for ages and am not looking forward to ( excuse the next sentence) having to harden the nether regions up again, when I finally start riding again. P.S I use Minty arse lard (Assos cream) , would that help.

Which shops is it that has the 'arseometer' I need a new saddle desperatly and thought this may be a good starting point. I sympathise with both of you since changing my bike and saddle I can't go 30 mins without sores.

I got mine measured at Evans and the new saddle was a massive improvement.

Mmm, why don't you try a different saddle? I have got a ladies selle italia saddle and it has been great from day one. You can always try mine out for a ride and see how you find it. You may have smaller sit bones than me though because i am pretty sure i came up as 143 on the spesh "arseometer".

Yes I came up as 143 too. I got measured at The Northwest mountain bike centre . Cheadle, Stockport.

Theres a saddle 'library' on this site. contact Bex and see if you can try out some of the saddles. If you're looking for a dealer with an 'Arseometer' you're looking for one that stocks Specialized saddles as that whats it designed to measure you for. Not sure if other brands give you width options that Specialized do. having said that I've just ditched my Specialized saddle for my old Fizik Vitesse.... much more comfy, for me persomally... The only time I got really bad sqddle sores was by wearing a pair of Assos 3/4 bibs, the pad was shocking and made me so sore I could have cried. Now I stick to what works for me, on all my bikes all with varying BB widths, they all have the same saddle and I always wear a pair of endura bib 3/4... a match made in heaven;0) for me at least!

thanks guys, I'm thinking of giving the narrower saddle a go, as it seems that new BB will be just as expensive and not as pretty Edinburgh cycles and Evans cycles in manchester both have an arseometer cheers Ros, might take you up on that offer, does your shiny white saddle have a cut out at the front? I'll drop Bex a line too and see where the saddle library is at the mo

Julie - my saddle does have the cut out - it is the "Selle Italia SLK Lady Gel Flow" which is one of the saddles in the library. You are welcome to try it out for a ride sometime.

Fizik Vitesse... the most uncomfortable purchase I ever made...def have your bum measured before buying... unlike I did!
|
 |
Strange but true I find the Fizik incredibly comfy... that's why if you get the chance try before you buy! What's good for one person could be hell for the other;0)

thanks Ros and Softfocus. Might take you up on that trial Ros, even if it's just on my commuter on the Turbo for a couple of days....or maybe swap bikes on Sunday for a quick go?? I was thinking of trying the Terry damselfly. Has anyone got one of those....a little pricey, but comfort is everything!! and it seems to be quite narrow.
|
 |
You can certainly borrow it on Sunday if you like Julie. A quick go might not be enough for you to work out if it is going to be comfortable or not though.

 cool thanks Ros
