Lights on Unlit Lanes

Looking for a front light for my short commute which is on unlit lanes. These aren't public roads, so there's not much chance of meeting any cars, just dog walkers and offlead dogs. As I'm only going a short distance I'm not too bothered about length of time a light will last, getting a good light to see where I'm going is much more important. It's all trees in the valley where I work and so it's very dark down there at this time of year. Ideally looking to spend about 50 quid, but will go a bit higher if need be as long as we're not talking silly money. Are rechargeable lights the way to go? Any suggestions and advice?

For that money I'd recommend smart lights.  I used to have these for my commute and for the price they are good.  They are a little heavy and you have to be careful with the charging, I just used a timer to check I didn't overcharge the battery.  Mine died on me eventually but that was due to using them in all weathers, they didn't like 5 days of torrential rain in a row.

I now use USE Exposure lights but they are above your budget.

I use the Cateye singleshot plus, which you can get here for £74.79 http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDetails.asp?productID=12045

The lanes on my return commute are pretty dark...and this is adequate.

I've just ordered the Cateye EL610, it's £65 at Venussports.

Sounds like a bargain!

I went down to the Post Office this morning and picked up my light and nice new gloves. It definitely does the job and lights up the lanes round here. Also took it off the bike and into the woods for this evening's dog walk and it was more than adequate for that - normally we take a couple of the big 3million candlepower lamps into the woods with us on winter walks.

Good!

I've just ridden home with mine and even though there's not much moonlight it seemed fine.
