Can anyone recommend the best winter socks to use. I have cold feet at the best of times so looking for some super warm ones for winter! Do those overshoe thingies work?

I love new socks too, my mum always gets me some for christmas...will have to remind her that i actually like getting them as I think she thinks"socks" is a bit of a joke Christmas pressie!! Shimano winter boots are the way forward (or other winter boots), expensive though, and don't pull the neoprene cuff too hard or it comes off ....they are very toasty though, and waterproof, unless water gets in through the top.

Some of the best winter socks I have are from Aldi of all places. They are super toastie. I would recommend a pair of overshoes, there are different grades so don't buy the first ones you see. Most are made from neoprene so are waterproof as well. I have a pair of windproof ones too but they are not as warm in deepest winter.

i use the (mid level thermal not cycling) seal skinz waterproof ones, with my flatties cause my trainers get so wet so my feet stay dry in the socks. They can be a tad sweaty it makes you warm too - which is grim but productive My bf who gets ready bad Raynaulds (frozen/numb extrematies that don't warm up for hours) in his feet and hands swears by these too, but using shimano winter spd boots - hes been really impressed with them and said well worth the £ - last years are about £80 now

Try DeFeet Woolie Boolie socks - they are lovely and toastie! And, yes, overshoes do work. Combine the two and you'll be nice and warm.

I use the mid level thermal non cycling seal skinz too (cycling ones are too short!) They keep your feet dry and with mesh shoes also keep the wind out - much cheaper and a lot less faf than overshoes

Has anyone tried any different winter boots except Shimanos as I know that Spesh/Northwave and a few more also do winter boots? After Saturday my toes early dropped off (wearing sealskinz thermal socks - but I do get really cold feet) so after reading the above thread I am thinking that boots are the way to go! Also has anyone ever tried the heat pads to keep your feet warm? - I'm getting curious now on how practical they actually are.

think the lakes winter ones are supposed to be the best. (julie grrr had some on i think) my feet nearly dropped off on sat too! coldest conditions ive ever ridden in....

I tried the chemical foot warmer pads the other day (couldn't afford the Sidi electric jobs at about £200 I think - not including the boots!) I have the Shimano boots & even with wool socks my feet still get cold at about 3 degrees. Using the foot warmers my feet didn't get as cold so I think that's a thumbs up (although not really toastie warm). they were a little tricky to get through the neoprene cuff on the boots - using a shoe horn really helped.

i used the sealskinz mid level thermal socks as well... not a great fit but they keep my feet toasty and dry
