Has anyone bought any new winter tights this year? I have had a pair of amphibs, which have been brilliant for the past couple of winters, but unfortunately I haven't been too careful with the washing of them and I know they ended up in the tumble drier at least once, so the windproofy bit at the front is now in big rubbery bobbles and looks a bit strange - and they've stopped making the ladies amphibs, which weren't too pricey either. Looking around the web sites a lot of womens winter tights haven't got the wind proof bit or are available in the wrong size (i.e not a size 10/12) Minx girl has got some terry coldweather tights, which are windproof, but I just wondered if anyone else had any recommendations. Anyone tried waterproof 3/4 lengths with tights underneath? Waterproof shorts are too short to keep my knees warm. I am v.tall as well. I just want something to keep me as toasty as possible when it's wet and cold. And something without a pad, probably.

i'll be buying some non padded lusso roubauix?? (sorry can't spell) - they don't sell them in many places but they are very warm and quite good value. always get 10/10 in teh reviews.

Thanks for that Ads. Have just ordered the non padded lusso max repel. Tried my husbands XL on - just a bit big, but I think I might be riding in some tights long enough for my legs this year! Have gone for bib tights as well for the first time. Good price too.

I've just bought some Gore 3/4 knickers (not tights I know but the closest I've got to lycra so far) simply because i want to do more trail riding over the winter and without my knee pads my knees get so cold! Can't review them for you yet as they haven't arrived but when I do I'll let you know how I get on. Re the bib tights, is the bib designed for women?

The bib tights aren't designed for women, but supposed to be unisex. I'm sadly not a curvaceous type, so hoping it won't matter... or will it? I do like a bit of lycra myself, but it may be because I just haven't found the right baggies yet. I sometimes have a fair bit of low back pain, which is improving with regular circuit training, but was hoping the bib thing would help stop gaps and a cold back.

Hi Spana - I really like the Sugoi 3/4 and full length tights as the pad is really comfortable. I wouldn't recommend them for you though as they come up quite short which is fine for me. Although I am fairly tall my legs aren't that long. By the way I used have really bad back pain during and after riding but since taking up yoga it has virtually gone. Have you tried yoga? Maybe circuits is doing the same thing for you - ie, strengthening your core stability.

Hi Ros - I was fine until I had to stop doing karate. Tried yoga and it did improve, but not as much as it has with the circuit training, which is good, because i enjoy the circuit training more and it's just round the corner. But I think you're right about it being the core stability thing. Do you wear bibs? Does the fact there's no gaps help at all?
|
 |
No I haven't tried wearing bibs. A bit worried about needing a pee during a ride! What do you do then? My problem is definitely a cross between tight muscles (hamstrings, glutes, quads) and core stability. So not sure the bibs would help anyway.

Yes, that had crossed my mind, but figure if I wear my baselayer under the bib, I would only have to take off/struggle straps out from under jumper/waterproof - which isn't appealing on a wet/cold day. Could always try out the SheWee, maybe or maybe not. Probably not. Ah well. The postman has delivered them, so will try them out on Weds eve. They seem like a really good fit and are the first pair of longs that are long enough.

i recently got some cannondale le carbon bib tights, toasty warm and wind/waterproof...will be well tested on my lands end ride a week on sunday!

my new lusso super roubaix?? tights are awesome. snug as a bug! well chuffed, there so much better than my old method of using normal walking thermal tights under sofshell trousers.

My new lusso max repel were actually a bit hot on Weds, but so comfortable. Bib bit was fine, didn't need a wee, so ok on that score and the foot loop which I would usually find irritating, was really quite unnoticeable. It didn't rain much though so will have to see if they are as good in the wet. Sinead - is it an off road ride at lands end and where are you going to? John O'Groats? Let us know how you found the cannondales. Although the next on my winter shopping list is a pair of winter boots - I'm thinking of shimano mw80 maybe. Anyone got recommendations? It's my 3rd winter of riding in my only pair of cycling shoes and wool socks (not even a pair of sealskinz) and I am ready to invest.....when I have the money!

Ladies where did you buy your bib tights...I sooo need a recommendation. I have several pairs of thermal tights and one paid of thermal longs but i really hate being cut in half by the waist band...or by having to wear shorts and therm longs.

I bought mine from http://www.dotbike.com/clothing_bottoms.aspx?A%3d4%26TRACK%3dDAC . They are unisex, and mine haven't got a pad, as I prefer to wear a padded short underneath in the winter - extra warmth and a bit easier to get from garage to shower without leaving a trail of mud or shocking the children! Although unisex, mine fit well - not the most aesthetically pleasing off the bike, but sooo comfy and warm on the bike. My husband was told by the shop he bought his in to go for the right height for a good fit - I think that was Harry Hall's in Manchester. At 5' 11" I went for a large pair and it's the first pair of tights I've got into which are just the right length and fit. Still waiting to try them in proper rain, but coping very well with muddy splashes. Dotbike - first time I've used them, but prompt efficient service.

im hoping my lusso's will be good in teh rain too, so far only tried in the cold and mud and im really impressed. ruthie i reckon with any tights or padded shorts its always best to try a few pairs on first to get your size right then order. i ordered 2 pairs and just sent teh wrong size back - bit of a faff but i dont know anywhere local that does lusso and id decided thats the make i most wanted to try.
