Hi,

I am just getting back into the swing of things after a 'nice' possibly French man (skier too!) collided with me in France when snowboarding earlier this year - for once the snowbaorder was being sensible! Thankfully I only stretched and pulled every muscle and tendon possible in my shoulder. Given the naff weather and the physio advising me to avoid the trails until I have more strength back in my shoulder to avoid dislocation I thought I would give spinning a go. Whilst spinning in a seated position I get slight pins and needles in all my toes on both feet that becomes unbearable during the standing climbs or sprints and I have to wimp out. I have tried with the straps loose and my trainers tied loose too but I still get the P&N. I am back at the podiatrist to check my orthotics on Monday, but does anyone have any advice to escape the P&N so I can push myself and get back in shape? I usually ride with spd's and usually only get some cramp in one toe that I have a problem with that needs the orthotics.

I had this problem too when I first tried spining. Found that the soles on my usual gym trainers were too soft and flexy. Started using Specialized BG shoes in the toe straps on the spin bike which was much better once I figured out the appropraite tightness for the shoes!(Ankle strap tight to keep the shoe on and the other two as loose as possible) and was much better.

Then my gym upgraded to bikes that have toestraps on one side of the pedel and SPD type bits on the other:) COuld be worth having a look - I didnt notice at first cos no one else used them.

Hope that makes some sort of sense

Most gyms have at least a few bikes that have spd's on one side so it is worth asking the instructer.

Thanks girls for the advice and apologies for the lateness but work have now barred the website so lunchtime is boring.

Still no improvement on the pins and needles and no spd pedals at the gym.  Apparently I keep trapping a nerve so at the moment several rounds of finding suitable orthotics.
