Today i am seeing a physio for hip pain (lasts first 40 mins of a ride and then goes, now it is really starting to get on my wick)..anyhow i chatted to the physio on the phone and she said asked my blood group (A+), she then said that people with this blood group are not suited to cycling!!!

She is highly qualified, wondered where she gets her info from tho??

She said i would better suited to swimming and walking, fantastic, I bought a new bike not water wings(coz i would need them!)
Now doubting whether to go see her!

Anyone heard of this (nonsense) before?

(maybe my dad tipped her off that i crash a lot, lol)

Sounds daft to me, I am A+ as well and have cycled all my life and hate walking with a vengance but I do get joint pain.

It's arthritis though, at the mo it's in my left big toe. When it gets bad I go on the cider vinegar and honey drink to break down the excess uric acid. Works a treat. Try it and see if it works for your hip and if it doesn't it is a great detox as well.

I can't believe you did that drop off at Gorrick, I bottled out and took the right turn along the top and met up with the path. You are a total nutter insanejane but well done for doing it.

Ah-ha - there is my excuse for a crap performance on sunday then - Im blood group A+

Ha ha, We can use it for an excuse now cant all us A+ 's??? having a bad day, it's my blood you know....hee hee

The drop off was ok, used to do DH (as most of ya know) so would be embarrassed to walk it(for fear of abuse from mates), although one of the reasons i no longer fancy having a go at DH events is the man made stuff that is put on courses..all a bit too extreme for me-getting old i reckon! ( i also didn't realise there was a path along the top!)

Anyhow i went to see this mad woman , 3 hours later i staggered home! She said by back/butt was like wood, not sure if that is a compliment or not! she has some strange ideas..like our blood group shouldn't eat too many bananas, red meat,or wheat.. she has told me to take arnica daily too.

Thought excess uric acid was gout??

you can buy a book on blood group diets, not sure I believe in it but a lot of it was right for my group and what I prefer to eat anyway, but there were some odd things in there (aren't there always on diets).

'A back like wood' - at least you have earned it through all your biking better than rotting in a chair lol !

what a load of tosh....!!! next they will be saying our haircuts don't suit cycling...

That's interesting, I'm A+ too and have just rediscovered biking.

Haircuts, well there are some that are't bike friendly and prone to 'Helmet hair syndrome' ;-)

mmm i get bad helmet hair too, there is no hope for me, lol!!!

Maybe you ought to ask her where she got her info from - As far as I knew the rhesus blood groups (that A, B, AB, & O) are all just different proteins in your blood - there are loads of other different proteins as well - just these other proteins don't affect us as much so aren't as important (ie for pregnancy in particular).

Next time you see her could you ask which blood grp should be first to the winning line - personally I'm hoping she says O negative (but I am part of 55% of the UK population with this blood grp!)

I understand many pro cyclists alledgedly visit a Spanish doctor who knows a bit about blood! ;-)

LOL. Here's another A+ and 50 years old to boot just taken up cycling again after 30 odd years.

Helmet Hair.

I got a Buff which helps stop helmet hair (and keeps the bugs out our your hair). They're available in most motorbike shops or Blacks the camping shop. They're really versatile too and very thin so don't bunch up. A lot of American lady cyclists use them. That's where I heard about them.

Im A+ too and admit I'm not the first up the hill but I can't see what blood group has to do with it. More like a liking for red wine and cakes holding me back!

PS Buffs are ace all year round. They keep the sun and rain off and they can be soaked in cold water in the summer to keep you cool or keep the sweat out of your eyes on long climbs. Loads of different fabrics. Cheesy website at www.buffwear.com.
