Hi all.

At 38 I have just gone out and bought myself a mountain bike and started doing some riding. Been round rutland water and thetford forest so far, plus 10+ miles a week road riding locally. I am hoping to kick the evil weed and get fit at the same time. As a kid I rode everywhere on my 3 speed bike and covered miles and miles on my own in the summer school holidays

Really enjoying the site, great to have a girlie place for those "stupid" questions on equipment. bikes etc  I live near Wisbech, Cambs.

Welcome Pam

Thanks for the welcome

Was wondering how many of you girls ride alone through places like thetford etc, is it reckoned to be safe etc?
My other half works shifts so there are a lot of weekends I will miss out on unless I brave it on my own.

Hi Pam and welcome

If you have transport and don't mind travelling at the weekends there's generally something going on somewhere!

Pam where are you based?

Oh and I am sure thetford is safe at weekends, full of families, wouldn't ride there at night on my own though (more cos of directional issues though!)

Hi Pam, I do a lot of riding on my own.  Just make sure someone knows where I am and ride routes I know.  I'm sure somewhere like thetford would be fine as its a popular destination.  Claire T is based Cambridge way and I'm sure there are likely to be others.

HI Pam. I would not worry about riding thru somewhere like Thetford Forest during the day at weekends, there would be easier targets around than someone on a bike.

Make sure someone know's where you are going and have a mobile with in case of emergencies.

Oh and welcome to the forum.

Thanks Sharon.

Off to Thetford again on Saturday for a ride round

Have to say I m definately getting fitter even with the relatively few miles I do a week on the road and all the ummmm discomforts of riding have been overcome eventually I am getting a bit of knee pain (inside edge) so will fiddle with the saddle height a bit to see if it helps, otherwise all going well and really enjoying myself.
