hi

a few months ago i got a specialized myka sport - the entry level MTB. its great and i am enjoying it, but feel i will soon be ready to upgrade.. i'd like something lighter without breaking the bank.. so what are my options...

1. move up the myka range (do they get lighter?)
2. upgrade the components to lighter ones but keep the frameset etc?
3. other

my budget is max £700 - pref less.

thanks

Is it a hardtail bike your after or full suspension? £700 will buy a very nice hardtail, with a bit of shopping around looking at any 2007 models still in stock (esp as 2009) models are coming out now I think you'd get a lot for your money. Have a quick look on Evans in the clearance section, give you some idea of whats available.

Hmm, I don't know what to suggest in terms of a spesh, I don't find their geometry suits me very well so they're not a manufacturer I'm overly familiar with. Maybe someone else on here can offer advice on a spesh??

what make would you suggest?

Oooh I'll have think and do a bit of internet looky for you. Second best to getting a new bike for myself is helping someone else buy a new bike. New bikes are ace!

Where in the country are you, if NW would happily go to a bike shop with you, and I'm sure Trio would happily tag along too?

New bike shopping, yay!

Try the usual suspects, trek, spesh etc and see which fits best!  The best bike for you is one that fits well.  Where do you live?  I'm sure someone can suggest a good local shop.

Trio is of course right, fit is the most important factor. Depending on your height etc you may find womens specific is the way to go. Take your time and try as many as possible before buying. Trek seem to do a good line in womens specific, kona do good frames but I always think are a bit under specced for the money. If spesh bikes fit you and you want another spesh go for the best one of theirs you can afford.

Good luck!
