Thanks guys,

I'll have a look when i finally get some money....that may be a while!

i'm 5'3 size 12, but have fairly chunky thighs & biceps....

i think the cycle world is missing a key marke here in not making specific womens armour.....

i wear 661 chicken wings - think they are medium? they have stretched too. highly recommended not too hot even in summer.

i also use 661 kyle strait knee pads. comfy, well padded and great to use at trail centres, but i don't use on normal trails as i find them too hot on the hills. (unless in winter when there pretty handy to keep you warm!) again highly recommended.

I have finally got my head around the idea of wearing armour... I borrowed some on a recent holiday to Sierra Nevada and I reckon I'd have a lot less skin and lots more scabs had I not been wearing some.So I'm out hunting some knee/shin pads + elbow pads, too. Not for any mad downhill stuff but for mad xc stuff...

I know nothing about armour, except the stuff I borrowed was knackered and not very comfy. I'm probably tall enough (5'8) for blokes' stuff but my calves are a bit spindly... what are the key features I should be looking out for when choosing pads and finding the correct size?

i use a set of fox ones that only have two straps around the calves so the knee bit can flap around a bit, which is fine if wearing long trousers, but not the most secure otherwise. But because they are strap on rather than the sock style put your foot through I can put them on without taking shoes off, and make them as tight as I need.

before I got them though, I used a set of blokes elbow pads on my knees and they worked fine too, and then I was clipped in so didn't need lower shin protection really anyway... but this is all me being stingy and not buying my own gear, just using odd bits handed down...

I would say as long as they don't wander about when you are pedalling most will do the trick. But if it is for XC riding then something you can take off easily for the climbs might be good - less hot and sweaty anyway

glad you are back riding Anu

I have very little calves (as brozza can testify) and I ffound dainese to fit me well. I use them for XC in the south alps,, and I find the dainese ones to be very good (mine are 6 years old now).

Mine have a calve strap and two scratches over the knee. But IIRC new ones have 3 straps.

Oh and brozza what does
and then I was clipped in
does that means you'r now a flat girl
