I was no. 188 - I'm not particularly enthusiastic about the pics, so won't be buying them either!

Have looked up yours and am very much liking the prominent pink!!

I will be struggling to drag just myself up some of those hills! And I can't believe that I decide to do it again and brave the 'long' route, and I find out that it's only now the 'middle' route! Am definitely sticking with the 80 mile one though and not the 100 mile one as the latter (with that much climbing) sounds very full-on indeed! I'm looking forward to it a lot though. I enjoyed Sunday so much so I'm in the mood for some more!

They certainly got a load of pics of you on mow cop, without showing how steep it is!

Yes the legbreaker has some odd thing going on with the long long route, you have to get round the medium route in a certain time to be allowed to ride it.

What worries me is that my mate 'will not be able to look himself in the mirror' (!!) unless he does the long long route. Which means I could be under pressure to get around the medium route in under 6 hours...so that he can then carry on. He may just have to ride by himself as I don't think I want to be hurried up some of those hills!

6hours! That's so fast, but you could probably do it!  After sunday I need to get faster, everyone seemed so fast!

Last year, the friends of mine who did it (after wasting 5 mins at the split point trying to persuade me to do the long route) did it in about 5hrs 45...I shouldn't think they wasted much time for the rest of the ride, so 6 hours sounds quick to me! But I might be a bit stronger than last year, so who knows! I try not to think about the speed too much on these long rides though. I don't think you should worry about it either - the more sportives you do, the faster you will get, bit by bit. They're really tough rides so finishing them is a real achievement, I reckon, regardless of the time.

Are you legs recovering OK? I had a rest day on Monday, went swimming last night, and then rode to work and back today. Mine don't feel too bad but they know they did something at the weekend!

Legs weren't too bad.  I could feel them on monday so took the geared mtb out for a short (18mile) spin.  With transwales getting closer I need to be able to ride back to back.  Although I could feel the legs I was fine.  Had a rest day tuesday and then woke up with some silly bug on wednesday.  So been in bed.  But feeling a bit better today.  don't think it was related to sunday though as I seem to recovered ok.

Part of my aim for this year is to get faster.  I think I am slowly improving.  I think I need to find a road club now, some long rides with a club would definetly make me faster and mean I know how to ride with a group.

I've entered the long route of the legbreaker this year, last  the short route nearly killed me, shows how far I've come with road riding!

Which ruby do you have?

Oh no - poor you! Glad you're feeling better.

This is probably a terrible thing to say on this forum (!) but what is Transwales?

Definitely find a road club! Even if the club is a bit of a distance and you have to drive to the start of the rides, you'll really enjoy them and they'll be good for you. Have you got any clubs in mind?

My Ruby is the Expert. I have just bought her some white pedals to match the bar tape and am on the lookout for a white saddle!

Transwales is an mtb event 344miles over 7 days.  So lots and lots of training needed.  As a roadie there is no reason you would have heard of it.  There is a club in Preston that sounds friendly, I had thought of looking at one to drive to, although part of what I like about biking is being able to do it from the front door.  But the all abilities bit appeals.  My Ruby is the comp, I'm going to change the bar tape to a bluey colour I think as I have put blue bottle cages on her!  I'm not sure I like the while handlebar tape.  Although with pedals and saddle to match it could be really nice!

That club does look very approachable and friendly! Go for it! How far away is it, anyway? Mine is about 13 miles away. I used to always drive there, and now sometimes I ride over and back, depending on how much energy I have.

Transwales...that sounds exhausting!!

The white bar tape is a nightmare to keep clean!

23mile without going on the motorway according to the AA.  So a little far to cycle there and back without adding a lot of mileage.

Need to look closer as well as there a few more in my localish area!
