Can anyone advise on the best way to lose a few pounds without losing the ability to train etc and not be hungry?  Am I looking for a miracle?  I don't want to lose a lot of weight (5 or 6 lbs)  but I'm always hungry and even eat when I'm not!.  Do "fat-binding" pills work or do they make you ill?  any advice is welcome!

Don't eat when you're not hungry, exercise a little patience and you should be fine. Yes it might take a few months, which is frustrating, but I don't think drastic measures like pills are at all a good idea for five or six pounds!

My advice is whenever you feel the urge to eat, drink a pint of water... brains cant distinguish difference between hunger and thirst apparently, if you still hungry half hour after the water then eat.

I have found ever since I started excercising regularly I could eat constantly - I've always had a good appetite but now I out eat my bf most nights!  I agree with Sinead about drinking water first rather than reaching for grub, plus the more water you drink the better you will train.  I've never used pills myself but I would say avoid that route - have heard both horror stories and reports that they are just a money making scam

definitely avoid the diet pill route- friend tried some- 30euro for 30 days supply and they did not work at all... and I've heard much worse stories...

also try to avoid snack foods- they are my absolute enemy... when I don't eat them, I weigh 3-4lbs less

avoid beer - hic - just got back from pub!

seriously you should easy be able to lose 5-6 pounds over say 2-3 months without doing anything drastic.  just cut out crap snacks and cut down on portion sizes, also in all seriousness cut down on alcohol if you drink a reasonable amount.  and try not to think "i've done loads of exercise therefore i can eat ANYTHING I LIKE" (a favourite of mine)

if you really carefully cut down i reckon a month is feasible to do it sensibly even.

Very good advice Claire but it is not always easy to lose weight. I exercise at least every other day, I eat very healthy, rarely snack other than on fruit, yet I have never weighed more than I do now, saying that I have never been more toned than I am now. i would love the scales to say I was a nice 10.5 stones and I did not fall into the overweight category on that ridiculous BMI scale but I find it impossible to lose weight, and I ain't going to live on lettuce leaves so it can be the case of not worrying what the scales say as long as you feel good in your self.

Amen to LaLa's words! Also, homemade soup is a great way of making sure youre getting the nutrients, a bit extra hydration and filling up your stomach. Then accompany it with wholegrain (not wholemeal - doesnt always mean anything) bread with light spread or olive oil and you'll be very content (oh and the recipe always requires a glass of red wine to accompany it!!...although alcohol does have a lot of sneaky calories)

ps - the real 'diet' pills that actually make you lose weight also make you pretty antisocial too. Toot toot

Remember that if you do a lot of exercise then you will weigh more, muscle weighs about four times more than fat!  BMI charts only make sense for people who aren't as fit as most of us are!
