Hiya

I just bought a Kia sedona...not sexy at all but my god its fantastic...biger than 4 x 4 can sleep in it and put the bikes in...if there is just you you can take the seats out down one side sleep in and fit your bike!

Otherwise I've been looking at...for our other car a vectra estate or a focus...both are pretty cool and massive boot space. Also the Volvo V70 is pretty cool these days and again massive

we use the road shuttle utility centre... basically its two moveable QR's on a weighted bar you chuck in the back of your car so your bikes stand up.

I found this on wiggle similar idea

front wheel out back seat up and throw the bike in the 106... 2 minutes.

Well like I said estate is very useful, and can get tandem, solo and a pile of camping kit into it.  Though am sure i would be better off with a van, had this one been written that would have been my next vehicle, so unless I meet any more testosterone geeks on a cheshire lane it will have to wait for a year or two.

Inside the car.... you only have to see your bike bounce off the car and across the M4 at 70mph once to go off all external bike racks for good!

We have a Skoda Octavia estate - the poor man's Passat!

I'd like a Berlingo/Kango type car-van. Hired one once at it just swallowed people, skis, mountaineering gear seamlessly.  Know a few mtbers who have 'em too.

Ah but not enough space for a tandem to fit in the berlingo/kangoo, they are too short at the rear.

Oohh good point Sharon. Tandem with kiddy cranks is looking like it'll be on the wish list in a few years time!

...and not too many years time, Andrew was on the tandem with kiddy cranks at 31/2 and had holidayed in the Dolomites by the time he was 4.

My tandem is an old road/touring tandem, with a short wheelbase.  I t currently fits into the estate in one of two ways;

If nothing else is being carried it will go in on it's side with the handlebars slightly turned to accommodate the front wheel, so do not even need to take the wheel out.

If carrying other stuff/people it will go in without the front wheel, back wheel first and half stood on one side of the car, usually secured with a bungy cord or toe straps around the seat pin to the rear passenger grab hold.  there is usually room for another solo bike and camping kit when it is carried this way!
