Hi guys

I'm going to stay with a friend in Huddersfield and he wants me to take him mountain biking. I was wondering where's good (other than the Peak District) within about an hour and a half?  I think Dalby Forest is that way and I know about the riding in North Wales but other than that I'm a bit clueless

Any help much appreciated.......

Cheers, Vix

Hi, there's a figure of 8 loop in Kirklees with a section through Hopton Woods where you can try Northshore / basic downhill (unofficial!) If you google kirklees Council or I'll try to email the map. Good cafe called Charlotte's with real Jersey ice cream

you could do Wharncliffe Woods which is near junction 36 of M1. Need someone to show you though really....

We have some routes round Leeds way....I have the technology but not the understanding to send you memory maps...depending on when it is, I could take you out, or I could ask a friend to e-mail you some memory maps.

Calderdale (Hebden Bridge way)is very good, but I've actually only been the once! I have friends who have been several times. Again I could ask them to e-mail you the maps.

Calderdale/Todmorden/Mary Townley Loop; Holme Moss (Holmfirth, a few miles W of Huddersfield), the woods up behind my house (technically a few miles south of Huddersfield though); Dalby Forest is a long drive from Hudds, and you'll neede someone who knows where they're going for Wharncliffe (actually Sheffiled, S of Hudds); Stainburn (Otley, N of Leeds which is N of Hudds); Yorks Dales - loads of choice.

Hi, I've only just found this forum & site, I take it your friend's probably been & gone, did you have a good ride?

Stainburn's ok, but bottom half (exitinig from the carpark at the bottom end of it) is quite hard-boulder trail, you're looking farily extreme black route-mates of mine actually built the trail as according to instructions from singletrak, and I know loads of people that have broken their bikes!! Unless you're into serious mtn biking, then I wouldn't attempt the bottom, BUT the top half (where the mast is) is not too bad.

Dales-there's loads of stuff. Settle loop's good http://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/the_settle_loop

HTH.
