I am sooo new to cycling world! I am looking for kit, bibs pref, and tops, but I have difficulty enough finding petite clothing in general casual world. Does anyone know if it exits in cycle world kit for women? I am 4 ft 11. Any tips? Thanks
You may have already done this, but have you looked at the kids stuff? There's plenty made by 'proper' companies and the 11 - 12 stuff fits up to 5 foot.
Not that I am sure of sizes for petite as I am 5 foot 8, but had a little look on wiggle and minx for you and there is some variety
Heya, I'm also of the petite variety: one inch taller than you though! I have found buying cycling clothing to sometimes be a struggle for me as not only am I petite (midget-y as my friends call me), I'm also a UK size 6.
Generally I fit that normal shorts and jerseys are ok for sizing but baggies look extra-baggy on me... but looks don't really matter while on the bike. Tights are where I run into trouble as I have at least an extra three inches in length at the bottom of my Gore Amazone tights. However I have looked at buying a pair of Sugoi tights (padded but no bib) that have an inseam of 29 inches which would fit me perfectly. An American-based company called www.teamestrogen.com have a select number of items in petite sizing, and shipping costs don't appear to be too steep and the dollar is pretty weak at the moment too so you might find something that grabs your interest there.
There are some UK-based companies that you could look at also such as www.chainreactioncycles.com, www.minx-girl.com, www.wiggle.co.uk, www.girlsruntoo.co.uk (look for the cycle/ tri section there), www.sheactive.co.uk. Check their shipping/ returns policies to see if you can try the clothes on and return if they are too long or don't fit. Also google the clothing company websites and checking their sizing charts also so you get a general idea about the length of tights/ shorts.
I have the same problem (5ft 1 and a 1/2 inches and uk size 6) so I always try and go for Italian brands like Castelli and Nallini as their clothing is definitely cut smaller. Pearl Izumi do stuff in XS and I usually buy their Lycra shorts (in fact their Xrta-small shorts are too small for me and I usually have to buy small!). Pearl Izumi stuff is really good quality and it lasts for ages.
Sizing is so misleading and manufacturers are so lazy - often lumping two sizes together such as 8/10. In reality, anything labelled like this is usually more like a 10 and therefore HUGE.
