I know there are loads of postings already but I really need a good saddle NOW.

Just picked up my new road bike and there is no way i'm keeping the SLR that came with it on - I think it's on eBay already!

I need a saddle that is light, has no hole, is not fat and looks good - oh, yeah and reasonably comfy as well for a road bike.

Recommendations urgently required please.

I recommend a ladies 'Selle Italia' something - sorry if spelling is dire and detail lacking!!! It's blue anyway!!! It doesn't have a hole in the middle, but it has small gel bits on it and is dead comfy (well as far as saddles go) I have one on the road bike and the mountain bike. It's fairly light too, but doesn't look particularly racey, but I like them.

Will let you know exactly what model it is later as I'll be pounding away on the turbo trainer on it tonight!

Hey LL, is the arione a women's version then? Mr BS has an arione on his road bike and says it the best saddle yet.

Not sure on the pink colour - my CR1 is carbon and silver.

Apparently the arione isn't gender specific - the design of it with the longer saddle length means that theoretically any rider can find their best riding position.

However my SO really didn't get along with his and has just changed it to the Aliante.

They do come in black to match your bike colour scheme (makes it more like a stealth bike). Sorry I thought someone on here was going for the full on pink thing.

If it was me I would opt for the vitesse - I have ridden a bike with one fitted and found it very comfortable.

I find that saddles are personal. I hate the Terry saddles but lots of women on here get along with them. I recently fitted the bontrager race lite to my road bike - not the prettiest saddle around but I find it comfortable and it almost feels as though I wasn't sitting on anything (no comments please!!). My other road bike has a Fizik poggio and my mountain bikes all have fizik saddles. The arione and vitess are expensive saddles just to try and find out you don't get on with them.

There are no trains this early - but don't think I get manage a 1 hour 15 min commute all the way...i'd have to leave at 4.45 AM.

But I really should ride my bike tomorrow if i'm riding Saturday...

Oh, and on the subject of saddles...I have fizik pave on my cross bikes and nisene on my training bike. They are ok but not for longer that 2.5 hours. Any thoughts on the Specialized Jet? I know it has a hole init, but it is light.

What about a Selle Italia Flite? I have two Flite Transams (guys version) one on the Titus MTB, one on the roadie and I will be getting one for the tandem as I really can't stand any other saddle. The transam version does have a hole but isn't like the Terry Bricks (sorry saddles). Its reasonably narrow (143mm), fairly light as it has titanium rails. The one I have have a little gel padding but not much. I found it very supportive on the sit bones, its nice and long so you can move around on it and its easy to get off the back of (not important for a road bike I know). Its the best saddle I've ever used after a few years of purgatory with various women's saddles.

I tested a Specialized Body Geometry Toupe yesterday, its supposed to be for men but it is so light and the most comfortable saddle I have ridden. A lot more comfortable than things with a lot more (or any) padding, I didn't even have to think about it being there, and its so much easier to pedal on such a small saddle.

The Specialized Jett saddle won in the end, mainly due to the fact that my LBS said I could try it for a ride and if it was no good, I could bring it back. It was also quite light so more bonus points.

It is one of the most bizarre saddles I have used - it flexes at the back but super stiff on the nose. It also has a hole which I wasn't so sure about, but after riding it I have changed my opinion on these too - all i'll say is bliss!

Still it's only had one 2 hour outing but so far, so good.

I'll add to the recommendations for the Fizik Vitesse and have one on mountain and road bike. They even come in a silver and black version which would match your bike!

They're on sale at the mo for just £19,99 if you google for it.

It is such a personal thing tho - why don't bike shops let us try them out for an hour's ride? I would be quite happy to pay an extra few pounds to cover their demo model costs as I've wasted so much money buying duffers.

I'd say the women's bonty racelite is the best I've ridden...done 50 m TTs and 100K audax and never noticed it. I've also got a Fizik arione and I quite like that...a little unforgiving for very long rides, but because the saddle's longer it gives a better choice of poistion...I use it on short TTs so I can get a bit lower. Some shops will let you try before you buy...Velocity in Portsmouth has some smaple saddle you can try if you're down south. Worth asking your local shop becuase evrybody's different!

Yeah, one of my local bike shops has certain demo saddles that you can try before you buy, you can take them out and go for a ride! Its really helpful, I wouldn't be happy buying a saddle unless I had ridden it, either as a demo or someone elses.

Where did you get that price for the Fizik Vitesse??

I've only used Selle Italia Lady Transam & Selle Italia XO Transam in the past but want something a little more 'racy' for my first year of TTing..
