I have a set of Rox shox duke xc on my bike, thats what it came with. They are ok..ish. I have them set up for my wight 52kg, but they dont seam to do as much as I hoped they would.

Any suggestions on tampering with them, or I could carry on changing the air pressure see if that makes any difference.

Anyone tried female specific forks, any good?
Ta.

Try changing the air pressure. I have tended to run air forks a bit lower than the manuals suggest as the majority of my weight is in my backside and legs rather than in my shoulders etc. Most guys (but not all) carry a lot more muscle/weight in the shoulder and chest area than us girls. Conversly I have my rear air shock a bit firmer than the manual would suggest. What other settings can you change on the forks? I used to have a pair of Rock Shox SIDs which had both positive and negative pressure and "I think" changing the negative pressure affected how easily the fork moved through its travel (although I could be getting mixed up with the compression damping on my talas now).

I've never used "female specific" forks, I am about 10st (63kg ish) and get on fine with standard air forks, although I have had problems with too stiff springs in the past.

Also meant to add...I have two female riding friends who are a good bit lighter than me. One is at a guess between about 8 and 9 stone and uses Rebas and really gets on well with them, they replaced the forks that came on her Specialized XC which were "women specific" but basically crap. The other girl is really tiny, even lighter than you and has a set of Fox forks, float I think (or possibly talas), on her juliana. She has had no complaints about the forks. The forks she has are a couple of years old now and about 100mm travel I think.

Thanks for that, the only other thing I can mess with on them is rebound adjustment, dont think that will affect them much though.

'Female forks' usually come with a lighter spring than regular forks. Of course, in air forks, the 'spring' is the air chamber.

Usually, setting the air pressure according to your weight is all you need to do. Make sure you have something on the fork leg that can give you an idea of how much travel you are getting. If the fork doesn't come with an O ring for this, then you can use a zip tie. Go for a ride, and see how much travel you are getting from the fork. If the zip tie isn't getting pretty near the full amount of travel, then adjust the air pressure in the fork.

Rebound won't affect the spring rate. All rebound does is set how quickly the fork goes from being compressed to being extended.

HTH.

Thanks people I'll have a dabble.
