Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum and am really keen to find some girls up for regular rides in the Peak District. I live in New Mills and tend to ride out around here. Are there any girls mountain biking around the Peaks?

Hi Ros, I used to live in Hope and roade in the Peaks loads. I now live in Yorkshire - not far from Holmfirth, but and still ride in the Peaks and well as Yorkshire. Drop me a line!

Hi Ros
great to meet you at the weekend at Selkirk, hope that you're not too badly bruised after that fall and that you had a safe journey home.

Was really nice to ride with another girl for a change, sorry you had to do all that waiting. I really enjoyed it, despite feeling a bit achy and very tired today.

Anyway, I'll keep in touch re when I'm next down in the Peaks. Have a good week :-)

Julie - great to meet you too. Bruises are coming up nicely. Journey home wasn't bad at all. In fact we are thinking of heading up to Glen Tress for a weekend sometime as it is pretty easy to get to.

Would be good to ride together again sometime - will be in touch when I know what I am doing over weekends in August. It does make a nice change to ride with another girl.

See you soon!

Ambrose's sister - thanks for your reply re riding in the Peaks. I am definitely keen to get out more in the Peaks - maybe a weekend in the near future? Or possibly an evening mid week? I will keep in touch and let you know when I am free.

Hello Ros,
I too am new to this site.

I live in Hazel Grove , not far from you and often ride in the peaks. In fact was out on my own around Roman Lakes at Marple tonight.
Let me know if you are free. We always ride at least one day during the weekend and every Thurs. night.

Great - it is good to hear from you Mrs NBT. I have been out tonight with the guys around Hayfield which was fun but hard to keep up. I would be definitely keen to meet you and go for a ride - probably better during the week as I am so busy at the weekends at the moment - how about one day next week? Who do you normally ride with?

Hello Ros,
What a small world. Chris Farley mentioned he had ridden with you the other night. Iv'e ridden with that gang a few times and I too can't keep up.

I usually ride with Hubby and a few guys. It will be next Thurs. evening ,I will let you know in advance where and what time. Bye for now. Jane.

Hi
I'd like to recommend the Cycle Yorkshire Women Only beginners course. I have been on a couple of guided rides with them and thought it would be useful to attend a skills session. Iain, the instructor, was really friendly and pitched the session to suit all riders.

Jane - sound good, let me know where and when you are going on Thursday. Ros

Ros - I haven't forgotten you! Been on holiday last week, but will send your email to the other members of the loosely structured 'Northern Girly Riders' (or some such name....)

How did Selkirk go for you? Can't remember what distance you were doing... I did 50k and found it very, very hard. Halfway round I was more than happy never, ever to ride a mountain bike again, but the final climb and descent were so spectacular I changed my mind... Off to SITS for the weekend to be overtaken by people.

Hi Emma - good to hear from you. Selkirk was fun until I came off my bike and hit my head pretty hard a couple of km from the finish. I still enjoyed it though but it was hard work - I did the 50km in a group of 4.

If you could forward my e-mail to the group that would be great.

Good luck with SITS!! I am off to Austria on friday for a week of walking in the Alps from hut to hut.

Hi Salz - I also did a womens beginner course with Cycle Yorkshire and thought it was excellent - fun as well as learning loads of how to handle my new Trek.

I am thinking about doing an intermediate course with them - if you are interested, let me know...

Hi Emma,
I did the 50K with Ros, I agree it was really hard, especially that switch back climb - I was not happy when I reached the top of that, but yep the final descent was brilliant (well apart from Ros falling off, which wasn't nice) - not been that knackered in a long time.
I'm going to be at SITS too, are you in a gurls team or mixed? I'll have a black cat tied to the front of my bike (infact the whole team will)say hi as you overtake me :-)
Have a great time in Austria Ros. Looks like I'll be down in the peaks again for the Bank holiday weekend, I think the boys are organising something for that weekend, maybe we should sort out a gurls one too, as there seems to be quite a few you based there.

Julie - I am definitely up for a girly ride over the bank hol weekend in the Peak District. I don't really mind which day. Not sure what the boys have arranged but maybe we could do our own thing and then meet up in the pub later?

Anybody else around and up for a ride in the Peaks over the bank hol weekend? Emma? Jane? Ambrose's sister?

In theory we're going on holiday that weekend - but daren't book till my daughter's new passport turns up... Keep posting and I'll look out!

Julie, I totally wimped out on the switchback climb and walked 95% of it. It was my long dark night of the soul, the sun burned down and it went on, and on, and on. I managed to drop my mobile on the way up and some wonderful person picked it up and returned it when he reached the top and found me in a state of collapse.

I'm token girl in a mixed team of sciatica sufferers and recently healed collar bones! I'll look out for the black cat. I'll be on a Maxlight hardtail (probably... rode boyfriend's Intense full susser at Selkirk but it's too big and a big scary). No other distinguishing marks apart from heavy breathing and very slow pace!

Sounds good to me Ros. We can sort something out nearer the time.

Emma, interestingly I found that a lot of the climbs were actually just as hard to walk/push as they were to ride really really slowly. so I took the riding option everytime. Don't envy you pushing a big fat full suss tho. I was gutted tho cos I ran out of juice on the last little bit, but you don't realise it's the last part of the climb until you come out at the top..damn.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for your Maxlight :-)

Hello Ros,
Hope this isn't too late to let you know about tomorrows ride.
The boys are going over to Rivington Pike, we on the other hand will be meeting at 7.00ish, at the visitors centre Hayfield, (the end of the Sett valley trail).
All welcome. Jules will be with me, he is slightly injured, so it will be a slow ride, not a race round.
Hope to see you there. Jane.

Jane - I am planning on coming along tonight. Unless it is raining hard then I might wimp out! Hopefully see you later. By the way don't wait for me - if I am coming then I will be there by 7. I'll be on a silver specialised stumpjumper.

See you later Ros.
