Hi Gabrielle - I am planning to go for a ride somewhere locally (Hayfield/ New Mills) on the morning of Sat 4th Nov - is that any good for you? You are welcome to join me!

Jane - I have resorted to going out with the boys tonight - oh no hope they don't kill me! I have just bought a new joystick light for my helmet and testing it out for the first time tonight.

I sent K8to a text and she isn't very well at the mo otherwise she would be coming out with us. Hopefully she will be better soon.

that sounds great! i should have my new bike by then. eeek!!

Gabrielle - what sort of bike are you getting? Will keep in touch about next weekend - probably aiming to set off around 10am for 2-3 hours. I am driving down south that afternoon so can't go out for too much longer than that. Where are you based? Is it easy enough for you to get over here?

Jane - do you fancy coming out for a couple of hours next Sat am?

getting a stumpy fsr with a few modifications. my first full suss bike! I'm from South Sheffield so probably go straight on A623 towards C. en le Frith. Hayfield would prob be about 50mins for me. That's not too bad at all. 2 0r 3 hrs is plenty.

Cool! I have got the stumpy expert - it is fab - I love it! If coming over to Hayfield/ New Mills is ok with you then that is great. Maybe in the future we could meet half way - Hope for example. Will confirm details next week sometime.

Anyone else up for 2-3 hrs from Hayfield or New Mills on 4th Nov?

Hello Ros and Gabrielle.
Yes I fancy a couple of hours out next Sat.
Have finally got the bike back. It cost a bit to get everything right, but it's worth it. Will get out this afternoon for a couple of hours and try her out.
I used to have the stumpy fsr. Great bike, my frame was a tad too big though.
I'll be in touch before next Sat.
Jane.

hi all

just took me new stumpy out today round Chatsworth, Beeley etc. Fantastic - feel so much different on the downhill! Still hate the bloody climbs but fab altogether. looking forward to meeting you chaps. I'm not super-fast on the the uphill - I hope that's ok!

Hi guys

Sounds like you had fun on your new stumpy at the weekend Gabrielle - cool. Uphills will gradually get easier the more you get out on it!! Not that I am especially fit or anything (don't worry).

I can't ride during the week this week so I'm looking forward to riding on Sat am.

Is 10am from the Sett Valley car park in Hayfield ok with both of you?

Jane - the route I was thinking of doing is: up Chinley Churn, down to house that you have to walk through the garden, up to peep o day (is that what it is called?), Hayfield campsite, up to shooting cabin, along top, down via that nice zig zag by the stream, then maybe up and around lantern pike as well. What do you think -does that make sense to you?
Show/hide user stats
Sure I will find that, know roughly where Hayfield is. Have to say, only time I was at Chinley Churn, I fell off my bike while I was stationary (getting a cereal bar or summat)! I hit my kidney on a tractor rut and was out for about 5 weeks!! Looking forward to a more successful endeavor up that neck of the woods! 10's fine.

Hi Gabrielle - I have just sent you an e-mail with my mobile number just in case you are running late or get lost on Sat.

Hello Ros,
Yes that route sounds fine. It is Peep O' day.
We can either get up to the shooting cabins via '20 trees', or walk up the steep cobbles of Kinder reservoir ( depends on time )!. Oh and we could do the Lantern pike bit that Martin showed us. What do you think?

Went out late yesterday afternoon, ended up being proper poorly, so had to cut the ride short. Bikes good though. Nbt had to put a new rear mech on for me.

Gabrielle please don't worry about climbing. I just like to get out and enjoy the fresh air and have a natter. Looking forward to meeting you.

Jane - hope you are feeling better soon - is it just a cold? I was thinking about adding on Lantern Pike to the route - this would probably make it about 3 hours or so. We can just see how we are feeling on Sat and see how time is getting on.

Hello Ros,
I'm out with the boys Thurs. night, not a proper ride though, it's just a pootle to let off some fireworks.
How did you get on with the speed merchants last Thurs?
Got some sort of mini cold and tummy bug, hopefully will be totally A O.K for Sat.
There are loads of places we can cut out from if time is running out on Sat.
See you then.

Hello Gabrielle, I've just remembered that mobile phones don't work at the Sett valley trail (Hayfield visitors centre). There will be a landline somewhere in the villiage though.

Last Thursday was great fun actually - in the end it was only me and Gavin as the others went over to Ladybower. We were out for a couple of hours - it gave me a chance to get used to night riding (only the 2nd time I have been out in the dark).

OK see you both on Sat.

hi - i'm sure i'll be fine finding car park in Hayfield so no probs. My daughter's full of cold and I've got a bit of an itchy throat so I'm hoping I'm not coming down with anything myself. Bloody viruses! I'll leave just before nine to make sure I got plenty of time.

Final check - are you both still ok for tomorrow morning? See you both there at 10am.

Jane - I am off to a bonfire/ firework display at the Little Mill in Rowarth tonight - should be fun. Don't suppose you guys fancy it? We will be there from about 7.30. We are biking over with another couple. I may have one more recruit for our ride tomorrow - will be seeing her tonight and may persuade her to come out.

Hello Ros.
I'll be there about 9.45, just so I'm ready and you're not waiting around in the cold. Wait 'till you see my winter gloves.

Thanks for the invite for tonight, but we're going to Altrincham for a bonty party. Otherwise I would have been up for it.

Some of the Lads are going to Hayfield tomorrow, they will not however be riding with us, Phew, I just can't always take the pressure.
The more the merrier for our girlie ride.

See you tomorrow. The trails should be nice and hard packed. I really don't like mud.

Have a good time tonight and wrap up warm.
Show/hide user stats
yes i should be on for tomorrow. emailed you, ros, to say i had bad throat but i have your mobile so will ring when i first get up if things have taken a turn for the worse. I'm hoping its just a mild cold - but i'm always a bit guarded if i've got summat.

What do people do generally? Some people I know just say you should train through it - but others say you should take it easy!
