Dude I'm getting worried how come you know so much about Triathlons shall I expect an elite athlete on our next weekend away?!
Rats ..... You've heard about my secret training . Seriously though no chance, I have a passing interest having done one but my cousin is doing the Iron man in Sept and I'm her emotional support so she keeps pointing out events I should try.
Oh yep beer is a good training aid I find I know it's difficult SuziB for you to plan too far ahead with work but am sure we can sort something maybe in Sept when the local accommodation has emptied a bit! Better get registered then!

It was a drunken bet that got me into my 1st tri but seriously it was good fun and I'd reccomend a short course for anyone wanting to try a tri or even have a different challenge. It's not so bad going from pool to bike although not sure about open water swiming.

Look what I just found! Xtreme terrain Festival seems to have loads of different options! You can choose between a triathlon, duathlon and aquathlon and sprint or full distances. The bike bit sounds like a proper MTB trail, rather than some forestry road. Quite tempted by the full tri....

Anu - just looked at that website and it looks just the thing - good find.

I've been having similar thoughts actually, but I don't really do running and find swimming really boring! I thought if i did some training in them both it may spark an interest for me - and would be some different training for my body, rather than just having rock hard legs and floppy belly.... will have a look through the links when I get a second...

I'm a rubbish runner Mrs Doolittle, but Carolyn talked me into a duathlon and it was great. I like running as it gets me fit!
Yeah come on Mrs D and join me at CYB! (well, still pondering really but I will if you will )
Got as far as printing off the entry form for CYB - now if I can just bring myself to fill it in and post it the rest will have to fall in to place. Sometimes I think it's best to enter and then think about it later. Seriously though Miss G - will have to get ourselves over to CYB to get a bit of practice in. Let me know some dates that are good for you.
I haven't sent mine off yet either - am awaiting pay day for the entry fee! At the moment the only weekends that are no good for me are Aug 16/17 and Sept 20/21st, pretty much free otherwise
I am seriously considering the CYB duathlon. Waiting for Jumbly to return and Trio to do Transwales then I seriously put some pressure on them although they'll both beat me !! Mind you I might win my class again if there is no one else in it
I am very tempted Carolyn, but want to see how my legs survive! You have the edge on me with running!
What class you in then Carolyn??
T'owd gits - over 40. The two local ones I've done no one in my age catergory was stupid enough to do it. Having just done the HTN one I think Coedy cannot be anymore muddy as the tracks are designed for bikes so I think 95% chance I'll do the Coedy one. Oh I wasn't the last today either which is a bonus !!
I'm still checking it out. Not entirely sure how my body will cope with running. I think 30 mins at a time should be ok. Reckon that's about 3 miles????????
Anyone around Leeds/Sheffield/Wakey/Barnsley who wants to 'ave a go, I'd recommend joining the Wakefiled Tri Club. They cater for all abilities, and will be as "hard" or "soft" as you want them to be. Wakey Tri Club They meet at Pugney's Water Park, a few mins from J39 of the M1.

This is probably a daft question but how do you carry your fluids if you are doing a dual/triathlon? Do people tend to use camelbaks or are there marshalls along the way that pass you drinks? I'm not sure that running with a full camelbak sloshing around would be much fun!
Intersting point Miss G. I have a waist band type camelbak which I think is designed for running and holds about one litre - maybe this would be suitable? I also wonder about things like any changes of equipment from run to bike - for example, if you need different shoes etc. Do you just leave everything ready to step into at the changeover point? And, if you do triathlon how do you change from wet clothes quickly or, even out of a wetsuit (I imagine that could be quite comical if you are trying to do it as fast as possible). There are lots of questions like that. You can train for the individual elements but it would be good if someone could answer these questions - just so as to be a bit more prepared. p.s. I almost filled in the entry form today!
People train for the transitions as well. At the duathlon I had a bottle on my bike with a gel attached, that was enough for me didn't need anything on the run. Bike shoes attached to pedals, trainers off, on bike, feet in, go go go
