.............do you ride? I'm just a beginner to MTB (started in March) and started riding twice a week. I have now up'ed it to going out 3 times a week and wondered what others do? I can't manage 2 days in a row as I get too tired! Do you ride less in the winter?

I can only ride at the weekends as live pretty much in the centre of Birmingham - by the time I am back from work in the evenings it's too late to start driving anywhere with decent off road trails Not fussed what weather I ride in really. Sometimes riding in the rain is preferable to riding in the blinding sunshine and heat! Depends how muddy you want to get

I ride at least once wid week and often twice and usually both days on the weekend. winter - every weekend but not midweek ( don't fancy night riding ) when i first started biking ( last year ) i was riding alot less frequently as i was tryiong to climb and ride on weekends. bikings won.

I ride at least 5 days out of 7 most weeks, unless I have an event. But then I am not representative. Riding 3 times a week is enough to see improvements.

Trying to do twice during the week and at least once during the weekend.... And attempting to go out with people fitter than me rather than just pootling around (sorry Pootle!) - I figure that'll push me to get better. I'm quite keen to try night riding when it gets to winter ... Does that make me odd? Out of interest what do you all think of night riding?

i love night riding. I didn't like the idea of it then tried it and loved it, gives new life to old trails.

i think night riding looks really cool. bf goes every week. i think id be scared though so don't fancy it! trio your a riding machine (in a good way)
I think I'm going to have to give the night riding a go... I'm really loving the biking (and living) in Wales, and I'd hate to have to cut down for a few months over winter (am I becoming addicted?!). Do they do night rides at Llandegla in winter?
Borrow some lights and go out with a group Ads, you might be suprised! I was, in fact I sometimes ride on my own at night now I love it so much! I'm not a riding machine, I just need to get the mileage in so that I'm ready for transwales (only 71 days to go)!

I love night riding, can't think of any reason you wouldn't like it ads, apart from the cost of lights!! (ouch)

My first night riding experience will be at Mayhem....am a little anxious about it I must admit!

Trio- you go out on your own night riding! are you mad. I once went out with Ros, but had to split up to go our separate ways home. I'd never ridden in the dark by myself before and was really scared, and it wasn't even totally black, black (if you know what I mean.

Sorry forgot to answer the question. Once at the weekend and usually to small rides during evenings (but only managed one int he last 2 weeks).

I never thought I would Mrs NBT, it is usually riding home from a ride and someone knows where I am, but I have been out and done the odd loop on my own. It's sometimes the only way to get a ride!
I go out on my own night riding although not these days as Trio is ALWAYS out so I don't have to. Whats mad about it?! Take a phone and let someone know where you are going. I prefer riding in daylight but in winter it means you can still get out.

Night riding might be too scary for me too, but I'd give it a go.... Lou - I think Llandegla closes earlier in the winter but does organised night rides. When are you off to Tenerife? Have a great holiday!

I try and 'train' five days a week, but that's not all riding. Tend to cycle three days a week, sometimes including a spin session at the gym. As I'm concentrating on biking for the moment, I'm currently riding four times a week and getting one run and maybe a swim in. Really love night riding but was a bit scared by the idea initially. Borrow lights to begin with (thanks Claire T and Outdoorbunny) just to make sure you like it before investing large amounts of cash. Llandegla is open one night a week during the winter, I think it is Wednesday. It's not a organised session, just turn up as usual. Missgroover, I recently did my first 24hr enduro and found that the night laps were made easier as you've probably already done a few laps of the course in daylight and know what's coming

Night riding is great - not nearly as scary as I thought it'd be and a great way to make a boringish trail more interesting! just make sure you ride with people who will stick close to you at first, and yep, definitely borrow lights for the first few times and then buy decent ones. I ride most days in the summer, and not nearly enough in the winter 'cos there's so much snow here and I usually ski rather than ride. Planning on spending most of january in scotland though next year so we can get in more winter rides

one or two times in the week - one or two times at weekend. in the winter usually just onece or twice at weekend and odd night ride. do a lot of indoor climbing in winter.

I was just getting into night ridding just before Christmas, before pregancy, illness and several weeks in hospital put a, hopefully temporary, end to riding very often. Used to go out about twice a week - once on mtb, once on roadie - less in winter, which is why I started night ridng - which is fab witha decent set of lights! Now about once a month, and I doubt I have many more rides left in me, although did the Red at Newcastleton Stane at 24 weeks pregnant!
