I'm in Hall Green which is just off the A34 Stratford Road, junction 4 of M42.  See what you think but if not no drama

If you are doing a skills course on the saturday does that mean that the "group" rides would be sunday and monday? I cant take the monday off but I would definately be up for riding sunday. Its only 2 hours ish for me so wouldnt stay overnight. Let me know what time meet is at the cafe on the sunday and will meet you there...

I'm not doing the course, just going along for the trails - and the company of course!

Hi gals

As it happens it looks like I'm headed for Afan tomorrow  so will check out the cabins and book one. To recap:

- K8to, MissG, MrsD and me arriving on Fri evening, all 4 staying at log cabin. Extra space available for TH if she can make it. Possibility of lift-sharing as we all look to travel on Friday late afternoon returning Sunday late afternoon.

- Sat me attending the course with the lovely Chris Ball. Everyone else + anyone wishing to join to plan for a ride somewhere (you're spoilt for choice, I should have ridden a few of the trails myself by the time I'm back on here on Monday).  Same lot staying in the cabin overnight.

 - Sunday all 4/5 of us + Elaine up for a ride starting at 10.30am from the cafe. Will stilll have the cabin at this stage so can shower before we all set off for the long drive home. I make it no-one planning to stay overnight into Monday and riding on Monday now.

Let me know if I've missed something/one out!

Log cabin booked, though I never got near them on Saturday! Did ride the White Level and parts of the Skyline, and the downs are worth the pig of a hill  Be prepared for a sustained and in places a little technical ride up... no smooth fire roads there.

Change of plans... A few of us are quite broke (nothing to do with MTBing of course!) so we're now going camping. At £2.05 a night it shouldn't break the bank! Log cabin cancelled, and I've booked 4 pitches at Afan Forest Park camping (located behind the centre) for missG, Mrs D, Kate and myself assuming we'll all want our own space. Showers are token-operated. If arriving after 5pm on Friday (bound to be the case) we'll need to settle on the Sat morning. If Elaine / anybody else needs a pitch, I suggest you get in touch with them quickly as they're filling up. 01639 850564, address for directions is Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre,
Cynonville,
Port Talbot,
West Glamorgan,
SA13 3HG.

Hope that's Ok with you missG.

Re: sharing lifts, Mrs D, what's the earliest you can make it to Derby area? If not early, it would probably make sense for me to share with you MissG instead - I am able to leave Derby from 2pm onwards (we clock off at 1pm on Fridays), and I'll definitely be driving down the M42. Let me know Girls.

Would be great if we can car share, I am finishing at 1pm that day too.  Will be home by 2pm latest (use the trains).  Only thing I will say though is as I am not from a camping background I have no gear apart from a sleeping bag so will prob need to share with someone...

We can sort stuff out between us I'm sure. I have a spare Thermarest. We'll see if we can muster up another tent, but failing that we'll squeeze you in, no probs.

Prob easier if I swing by K8to's on my way, and you two share then.

Hiya

What do the rest of you intend on doing on the Sat whilst Caroline's doing her course?  And any plans for what to ride Sunday?

If I come it will be 10 ish friday night but I have an instant tent so no worrise there

I've never been so up for whatever

Though the Skyline looks a bit intense....

Show/hide user stats
Skyline is a fabby ride...bit of a tough climb to start with then nothing too bad..just a bit long...def a sarnies and lunch stop to be sociable  really depends on what people want.  I reckon Wall is a good one to warm up on as not too technical then either whites of Penhyyd in the arvo...makes for a good day... if not skyline then sunday a shorter one as people have to head home.

dunno....whatever.......I'm happy to do Skyline on Sat....w....

ta

See you sunday

Cool,  we'll see you on Sunday then

PS- Chris Ball won't be my teacher after all, he's off to Italy for the world champ, how inconsiderate of him! Will have to settle for Rowen Sorrell instead
