hi ruth

i only had astgmatism -1.50, and -1.25 cyl  summat like that, myopia was negligible. i did pay A LOT OF MONEY for the latest technology. i think it is more money for more severe prescriptions over (-6.00 maybe) as there is more risk and  higher customer disatisfaction - perhaps this extra money is for insurance against claims??? I had mine done through Optical express.

Really interested to read about your laser eye surgery Treehugger (I posted in chat not knowing you'd got this thread going in here!). I had a consultation at Ultralase on Friday and have been umming and aahing about it ever since.

UL are bleedin expensive though (they kind of justify this by having a 'lifetime care guarantee' which means that they'll retreat your eyes again free of charge if they worsen whether that's 12 months or 12 years down the line - according to them other laser eye providers only offer a year). Would be looking at forking out about £4000 though for both eyes. Ouch. Going to arrange a consultation with Optical Express too though - just to compare what they offer and for how much.

The other thing I didn't really like about Ultralase was how they barely mentioned the surgeon or their qualifications (in fact it was me who asked them and the advisor basically just said he was 'really nice'....). Were you given much information about your surgeon Treehugger, before you went ahead with it?

Everything else I've read since has said the most important thing in all this is the person who actually does the treatment. What laser you get (which is what most clinics seem to harp on about) is actually second place to the person who's working the equipment and fiddling with your eyes.

Hmmm.

I had mine done at Ultralase (Manchester) and would recommend them. The surgeons were extremely highly qualified their CV's are on the website.

hi moobag

2 adn a half weeks on i am very satisfied with my treatment - had no post op pain adn have a very little dry eye towards the end of the evening. i was back on my bike after a week and a half.

when i booked my treatment, i asked for the name of the surgeon. I then went on the internet to see if I could find anything. I found that my surgeon was inlvolved in many papers of a medical nature, which gave security in knowing that this person is also an eye 'doctor' and not just someone who only performs laser surgery. I felt he was very good and made me feel very confident. I have emailed you details of the surgeon and cost.

the consultant should also have said whether you need lasek or lasik! i was very comforted when i went for my surgery to see that a lot of people where having lasek - and this meant that they were screening people properly, as some aren't able to have lasik.

no harm in getting  a second opinion - its a lot of money to spend adn not be entirely confident.

good luck - go for it
