Your nose runs like a tap in the winter as soon as you get on your bike??

cold & wind?

grim but true - i've learnt the art of snotting while riding. still a bit of a spray rather than solid but im still learning ;p

Ads, how do you do that?!!  I would just end up snotting all over myself!

Roadies are really good at it, I always worry that the wind will be blowing the wrong way one day though and it will blow into me!

It's all in the technique Claire.

Although when it goes wrong, you know about it...

Show/hide user stats
I will ask my roadie friend to teach me.

Hold one side of the nostril and blow out the other.  Just turn your head slightly as you do it.

Practice makes perfect

yep bikescooby is a wise woman.

i also use the hold one nostril and blow facing the other way technique.... i have unfort had bad results using this in the wind though. (yark!)

the expert roadies can do pure solids that can take out flies mid flight i hear.

ha ha great replies on how to get rid of it, that i am very good at...I just wish it wouldn't happen in the first place!

You have to blow rather than wipe otherwise you look like Rudolf by the end of the ride - or is that just me?

Show/hide user stats

surely the consistency isn't down to whether you're a roadie or not but the contents of your nose though Ads!?!

Maybe they just have faster snot expelling velocity due to more practice?

Show/hide user stats

oh claire you really are showing your novice snotting experience here....

all such a fine art that dependant upon the angle, the pressue holding and blowing plus wind speed/speed on bike - these factors AND personal flair all change how the end product is launched thus its consitency.

I think a lot of it is confidence in your snotting ability -  I tried once, and cos I was a bit worried about the whole procedure, I did a puny little blow and the snot went hardly any distance, and just landed on my hand!!!! GROSS!

I will practise more to make you happy Ads, maybe you can give me a demo at the Christmas ride

Aim for something really far away; even though you may have no chance of hitting it, you should at least manage to clear your own arm.

what about the slug trails on your gloves from wiping your nose...yeuck
Show/hide user stats

lol! thats why i wash mine after every ride. grim arent we!

claire - keep pratising dude. i'll mentor you on the peak xmas ride if your still struggling to reach over the length of your arm ( as dirtdiva mentions as a good measuring tool )

I think if we practise snotting on the Christmas ride we may swiftly find we are on a ride just the two of us!
Show/hide user stats

You two can stay at the back...

Show/hide user stats
I hate snotting and have never tried but wash my gloves as much as possible otherwise you can impetigo (nasty!)
Show/hide user stats

ok ok no snotting on the xmas ride.

boo

Hold one side of the nostril and blow out the other.  Just turn your head slightly as you do it.

it's a useful weapon to use on cars that get too close to you on your commute aswell
