I have a burning desire to spend again; so next little ££ buys i need are a seat clamp(lovely red Hope one i've got my eye on) and some mtb tyres.

Needed for Peak summer ( so can still be quite muddy - need an allrounded but light )

can anyone recommend me some?
bf will just try to make me buy the cheapest so im asking you for help :)

I like my Panaracer Fire XC pros, they are good in all but the most muddy conditions, and they have lasted me ages (though I have just found a rip in the sidewall of one of them so will have to get a new one!)

Used Panaracer Fire XCs for years with no problems but don't use them now as after using Kendas on holiday the Panaracers just didn't inspire me with confidence anymore. Think it may be the lack of big side knobs, however I have a habit of really (scarily sometimes) throwing the front wheel around these days and the Fire XCs couldn't cope. Friends of mine still ride with them and love them.

I currently use Kenda Blue Groove/Nevegal 2.1s on my Titus and Specialized Enduro 2.3 tractor tyres on my hardtail. Both sets are good all round but the Enduros win on all round stickiness (pretty draggy though - actually make that extremely draggy on everything) and the width of them means they'll barrel over anything. I was given them but I would buy another pair if these ever wear out, just not the 2.3 monsters! The Kendas are probably better all round as they are lighter and roll better but still cope with most things.

I ride mainly Lakes/Dales etc so similar terrain to you - rocks, grit and occasional mud.

Another vote for the Fire XC Pros - not too expensive either (they were on special offer on Chain Reaction I think)

I'd go for the Panaracers Ads, I tried the Kendas and I thought they struggled with the Peaks mud. The Kenda Blue Groove/Nevegal are awesome on dry man-made trails, but I hated them on our bogs.
2.1 will be fine.

Are you getting the yellow?

not sure on the colour its a choice between yellow or red... (my bikes a rainbow as you know!)

They are the right ones - they are quite pricey.
I prefer them just in black!

Schwalbe Nobby Nics (in mud) or Schwalbe Racing Ralphs (dry) - they are awesome.

I think tyres are as much a personal choice as saddles judging by the responses! I think the Panaracers are appalling in any sort of mud but I am actually the only one in our riding group that thinks so, it must be my ham fisted riding style!

im still too new to know my style. if its anything like my driving though i'll end up being aggressive and irratic!

I've got some bontrager jones ones as well, can't really tell the difference between them and the panaracers, apart from I think the panaracers are slightly better in mud (until I wore them nearly into the ground)

I know quite a lot of people are fans of the ones schwalbe ones BikeScooby is talking about - may try some of these myself.

I just got some of those Panaracers before I went to Wales. Don't have a vast knowledge of tyres, but I did like them - they certainly climb faster than the mud tyres I took off! I liked the Joneses that came on the bike too, but they're too worn for anything but dry trails now.

Hmmm. Don't think I've contributed anything useful, just reinforced what everyone else has said...

Something else for the mix, Bontrager ACSes (AC = All Conditions) are good for mixed conditions - like summer in the Peaks! They come in 2.2 so they're good airbags for hard dry summer trails.

thnaks all. am holding off buying new tyres now casue i've just realised what i've got are fine and light. its the cheapo decathlon inner tubes that are the problem.

will remember the recommendations for when i need new tyres though.

next big buy are the forks (rebas i think) after summer.

Well if you do decide to splash some cash and buy some new tyres soon, I've found some at a bargain price...
I've just ordered a PAIR of Panaracer Fire XC Pro folding 2.1 tyres for £40 from Bromley Bike

Hopefully they won't be as slidey as the ones you had on sunday then WL.
